Instead of issuing traffic fines, officers from the Happiness Patrol distributed free petrol cards and gifts to motorists who were observed adhering to traffic regulations.

The campaign, which coincides with the ongoing Arab Traffic Week, underscores the commitment of Abu Dhabi’s law enforcement agencies to foster a culture of safe driving and responsible road behavior.

Lt-Col Nasser Abdullah Al Saadi, section head at the Security Media Department, emphasized the significance of encouraging drivers to prioritize safety on the roads.

“Arab Traffic Week, which runs until May 10, aims to achieve safety by raising the public’s awareness of how important it is to respect the rules and avoid all distractions when on the road,” stated Lt-Col Al Saadi.

The initiative not only rewards good drivers with Adnoc petrol cards but also includes the distribution of gifts and brochures on road safety.

Maj Nasser Saleh bin Badouh Al Darmaki, head of the Happiness Patrol Team at the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate, highlighted the importance of enhancing “traffic positivity” to ensure the safety of all road users.

“This wasn’t the first time the Abu Dhabi Police surprised good drivers. The authorities have been handing out special gifts — including TV gift sets and certificates — to recognize their efforts,” Maj Al Darmaki explained.

The gesture reflects a proactive approach by law enforcement agencies to reinforce positive road behavior and create a safer environment for all. By incentivizing compliance with traffic rules, Abu Dhabi Police aims to instill a sense of responsibility among motorists and reduce the incidence of traffic violations.

Through such initiatives, the Abu Dhabi Police seek to promote a culture of mutual respect and cooperation among drivers, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the community. Lt-Col Al Saadi urged drivers to maintain the habit of observing traffic rules and avoiding violations for the safety and security of everyone on the roads.

Similar initiatives are periodically carried out in other emirates, demonstrating a concerted effort by authorities across the UAE to prioritize road safety and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. As the campaign continues, motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant and uphold the principles of safe driving.

In a video documenting the campaign, drivers can be seen expressing gratitude and appreciation for the unexpected rewards bestowed upon them by the Happiness Patrol officers.

The initiative serves as a reminder of the positive impact that small gestures of recognition and encouragement can have on fostering a culture of responsible driving.

As Arab Traffic Week draws to a close, the Abu Dhabi Police reaffirm their commitment to promoting road safety and encourage all motorists to play their part in creating a safer and more harmonious driving environment.

By working together, communities can strive towards a future where road accidents and fatalities are minimized and every journey is a safe one.
