Egypt: Egypt chaired the Forty-Second (42nd) meeting of the Arab Permanent Committee for Post, which was organised at the Egyptian Post headquarters in the Smart Village under the presence of the Heads of Postal Bodies from 45 Arab countries.

As per the updates, several other top officials attended the meeting, including the Representative of the Director General of the World Postal Union, Mr Hashim Al-Hajj, and Minister Commissioner Khaled Wali, Director of Communication Development and Information Technology Department at the General Secretariat of the University Arab Countries, and Mr Mokhtar Shadli, Regional Advisor to the World Postal Union in the Arab Region.

The reports have stated that the meeting discussed the axes of enhancing common Arab cooperation in the light of the regional and global challenges facing the postal sector today and how to overcome them and offer innovative solutions and services to serve citizens in all Arab countries by leveraging on the national competencies existing in the Arab countries.

During the meeting, the parties agreed to study the mechanism for enhancing inter-Arab cooperation to come out with the best results and proposals that represent the interests of Arab countries in the World Postal Union.

Furthermore, the meeting witnessed the presentation of the World Postal Union’s recommendations for the regional development plan dedicated to the Arab countries to improve services and promote e-commerce in all Arab countries.

In addition, the meeting discussed several important topics, including the agreement on the new system for closing expenses, the Arab country’s stance on opening the doors of the World Postal Union to stakeholders and the importance of assessing its impact on Arab countries.

The authorities have stated that the research of mechanisms to support Arab postal administrations to face the challenges posed by advanced technology and the search for ways of transformation and these challenges are opportunities for the development of the Arab postal sector.

It is noteworthy that the Arab Standing Committee of the Post is a pop-up committee of the Arab Communications and Information Technology Cabinet. The committee’s meeting in its current session was preceded by preparatory meetings of its working teams for the period from January 1 to 15.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Egyptian Post, in collaboration with the Emirates Post, issued a commemorative stamp marking 50 years since the establishment of Egyptian-Emirati relations. 

”The monument embodies the bonds of brotherhood and friendship that unite the two countries and the promising prospects of Emirati-Egyptian relations in various sectors that benefit and fulfil the interests of the people,” said reports.
