Egypt: The Environment Minister, Yasmin Fouad, has recently met with the climate leader for COP27 (Conference of Parties) and seeks the latest updates and information on the results of the CO27 conference arriving at the UAE (United Arab Emirates) COP in the 28th edition.

Egypt: The Environment Minister, Yasmin Fouad, has recently met with the climate leader for COP27 (Conference of Parties) and seeks the latest updates and information on the results of the CO27 conference arriving at the UAE (United Arab Emirates) COP in the 28th edition.

As per the updates, a meeting was held between the Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad and Ministerial Coordinator and envoy of the Climate Conference, Dr Mahmoud Mohiyuddin; also the climate leader for COP27, to get a brief follow-up on the outcomes and updates from COP27.

As per the sources, the meeting was hosted by Sharm El-Sheikh city, and the arrival of the climate conference cop28 in UAE at the Cultural Environmental Education Center (Cairo House) in Fustat.

During the briefing, the environment minister clarified that Egypt, at the national level, has updated its nationally updated contribution plan for 2030 and is also working to revive the climate change issue at the federal level, 

referring to the National Council for Climate Change meeting chaired by the Prime Minister at the end of this month and is the strategic entity to take any decisions related to climate change.  

In addition, to review the COP27 climate conference, the decisions and results issued by it and the mechanism of their completion at the national and the carbon market levels, it is indicated that the country has begun to work on reduction projects and a mechanism to sell carbon certificates.

During the meeting, the Minister of Environment pointed out the coordination and cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and the possibility of working on new initiatives or completing the initiatives launched through COP27, noting that the initiatives undertaken by the Egyptian Presidency of the conference amounted to about 11 industries in total.

On his part, the Ministerial Coordinator, Dr Mahmoud Mohiyuddin, explained the significance of the positive results they got from CO27. He added that all sectoral ministries must coordinate and determine the work map of the next stage, work on the output of the COP27 climate conference, focus on energy topics and highlight the importance of the Novi program projects.
