Egypt: EM Yasmin Fouad welcomes Manal Saleh, Director of Al Kasa Bank to promote recycling culture

The Minister of Environment, Yasmin Fouad, received the Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Bank of Al-Kasa, Manal Saleh, at the Cultural and Educational Centre in Cairo to discuss ways of sustainability and conservation of resources to promote recycling culture.

Egypt: The Minister of Environment, Yasmin Fouad, received the Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Bank of Al-Kasa, Manal Saleh, at the Cultural and Educational Centre in Cairo to discuss ways of sustainability and conservation of the resources to promote recycling culture.

On her part, Minister Yasmin Fouad stated that “We are looking to obtain an international license for Egyptian recycled products in cooperation with UNIDO.” She also added that the meeting also emphasized promoting the culture of recycling products and supporting it locally and internationally.

In addition, she also pointed out that “We welcome the completion of the FROM WASTE TO GOOD TASTE initiative to raise awareness of recycling culture in cooperation with environmental work partners.”

During the meeting, Yasmin Fouad expressed her appreciation for the efforts of Al-Kasa Bank of Egypt in supporting the culture of protecting the environment and natural resources and promoting and supporting the system of recycled products.

In her remarks, she further stated that the culture of recycling and reuse of diverse products, such as textiles, leathers, etc., is essential in conserving the environment. The steps are taken in cooperation with environmental partners, contributing to activating the concepts of sustainability and supporting the culture of community responsibility For the products.

On her part, Manal Saleh, the CEO of Al-Kasa Bank of Egypt, thanked the Minister of Environment for her sponsorship and support of innovative ideas and projects and support of Al-Kasa Bank of Egypt in the recycling field transforming fabric and textiles waste into valuable and sustainable products.

Furthermore, the Chairman of Al-Kasa Bank reviewed a number of issues that require the Ministry’s intervention to support the culture of recycling, including solving the problem of waste of fabrics and textiles in free zones by providing a mechanism to reuse these products, converting them into new products, and distribute them through community associations in villages and areas most in need.

The reports have claimed that the recycling of the products is possible in cooperation with the Bank Long Live Egypt Fund, as well as the need to have a mechanism to obtain an authorized license for the export of recycled products to open new horizons for recycled products and support them globally.

“The initiative “FROM WASTE TO GOOD TASTE” was launched in mid-January 2023 with the participation of the Egyptian Bank and Cocoon Cultural Center in order to urge Changing the unconscious consumer behaviour of textiles and awareness of the youth about the culture of recycling through mobile cars in universities and factories,” said the environment minister.

The Minister of the Environment further stressed the need to conserve resources and look for solutions to use the parks accumulated in the free zone by ensuring their utilization and compliance with the law of that zone, said reports.

Yasmin Fouad clarified that the waste management agency is the only credential authority, according to the Waste Law No. 202 of 2020, to obtain a license to recycle products inside Egypt. It is a sign that the approval of these products for export needs to obtain a permit from an internationally authorized body for recycling products.

Notably, Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad has continuously welcomed the initiative from waste good taste to raise awareness about the recycling culture and a gesture to the Ministry’s willingness to support it and joint work to promote a culture of sustainability.

She has conveyed that it is a sign that changing the culture of society will not only be done by the state and the government but by the belief of each individual in innovative ideas and working on environmentally friendly projects.

“The initiative is focused in addition to its goal of preserving the environment and reducing the environmental impact of dealing with consumer products while providing green and unconventional job opportunities for young people as they integrate them with environmental work,” she concluded.
