St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Drew, has advised the Citizens to be aware of vector-borne diseases. The Prime Minister who also holds the Health Portfolio, expressed his concern over the increased cases of Dengue and other vector-borne diseases.

It is to be specifically mentioned that in the month of October, the Health Ministry issued an advisory regarding vector-borne disease with the increase in rainfall. Prime Minister Terrance Drew stated that, till now, there have been twenty-two laboratory-confirmed cases of Dengue in the federation.

It is worth mentioning that CARPHA (Caribbean Public Health Agency) has reported an increasing number of dengue cases. PM Terrance Drew said that the Ministry of Health of St Kitts and Nevis has enhanced the awareness  against the diseases. Moreover, many steps are also being taken by the ministry to reduce the vector-borne infections.

PM Terrance Drew further expressed his gratitude toward the health ministry, saying, “I want to thank the chief medical officers and health ministry. They worked jointly with the persons who were involved in the fogging, etc. So with their efforts, we were able to reduce the number of cases.”

PM Terrance Drew further asked that citizens  to cooperate with the Government. He also said that only with the collective effort of Government and public we  can we tackle this emergency-like situation.

PM Terrance Drew also said that the Health Ministry strongly advised the citizens to use personal repellent to keep themself safe. Citizens must use a bed net, wear protective clothes like long pants and long-sleeved tops and protect their homes by using screens for the doors and windows.

PM reaffirmed that the government of St Kitts and Nevis is capable of tackling this situation. But he said repeatedly that people’s participation is very much needed. Collective effort can bring dramatic change.
