St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew attended bilateral meeting with the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs – Brian Nichols.
At the meeting, Nichols was conjoined by United States Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis US Embassy Bridgetown – Roger Nyhus.
PM Drew acknowledged the meeting by marking it as productive and said that they had a fruitful discussion on growth and development in St. Kitts and Nevis and the strengthening of ties between the United States, St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean region.
Earlier, he had a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States with United States Secretary of the Interior – Deb Haaland, joined by the United States Ambassador to ST. Kitts and Nevis of US Embassy Birdgetown – Roger Nyhus.
The discussions mainly focused on the climatic changes and its devastating impacts that affected the Small Island Developing States such as St. Kitts and Nevis and other pertinent issues relevant to the region.
Reportedly, Prime Minister Drew participated in various events at the SIDS-4 Conference that was held in Antigua. PM Dr. Terrance Drew was conjoined by the other members of the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation opportunities mainly for networking and meaningful interactions with the international and regional officials, industry leaders and professionals and also the climate change advocates.
The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) was held from May 27 to 30, 2024 in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. The Conference was held at the American University of Antigua (American University of Antigua, Jabberwock Rd, Osbourn, Antigua and Barbuda).
The conference was held at the venue is located near the V.C. Bird International Airport. Under the theme of “Charting the course toward resilient prosperity.” It aims at assessing the ability of SIDS to achieve sustainable development, including the Agenda of 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference resulted in an inter-governmentally agreed, focused, forward-looking and action-oriented political outcome document.
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Sports and Entertainment and The Arts – Samal Duggins expressed that he had an absolute pleasure to deliver the welcome remarks at the Side event of the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The welcome remarks were centred around the theme of “Revitalising SIDS Economies & Food and Nutrition Security through Sustainable Use of Marine Resources.”
Furthermore, the seminar provided a platform for engaging in an interactive multi-agency discussion on the sustainable utilization of living marine resources, with a particular focus on the crucial role of aquatic foods, including fish and other seafood, in the post-COVID revitalisation of the economies of SIDS, especially those in the Caribbean region.
Duggins said that he is grateful for the opportunity to have been part of the significant discussion and is looking forward to see the collaborative efforts of all the stakeholders in charting a course towards brighter and more sustainable future for SIDS.
