Dominica: Roosevelt Skerrit, the serving Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, shared his vision for the growth of the nation by paving the path of the future through the implementation of green and orange economies in a recent media appearance.
According to the vision of PM Roosevelt Skerrit, the green and orange economy ideas can lead to benefits for the nation in long-term sustainability. It is necessary to know that the green economy focuses on growth while preserving nature, whereas, the orange economy is about promoting skill and intellect-based productions such as art, design, music, literature, etc.
The government of Dominica under the leadership of PM Skerrit is taking steps in the direction of using the environment and structuring a momentum that could help in the economic circulation while protecting the natural diversity and culture on the island.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said, “People believe in the green economy because it is about forest reserve and we should not look to make use of it just to benefit the economy. We also need to protect it so that we keep on getting benefits from it which it offers.”
PM Skerrit mentioned in his statement, “People go to national parks all around the world, where they have accommodation that they get along with the national park as its part. So we also need to have a look at how can we take advantage of the resources present in our environment and use it for the national economic growth and turn it into assets for people while creating more jobs.”
While mentioning about the orange economy, PM Roosevelt Skerrit stated that if a talent from the island nation of Dominica goes out for work in other nations and earns an amount which gets deposited into his bank account. This money works as a contribution to the national economy and help in growth.
He said, “That is where you are talking about real export industry of our artist. Artists of all forms such as creole singers, bele dancers, cadance singers, calypso, bouyon, and people in the performing arts. A wide range of areas where I do not believe that we in the Caribbean, we have not seen this as an export industry and huge foreign exchange earner.”
PM Roosevelt Skerrit mentioned that his cabinet is working in the direction and they are active on the two projects with OECS which are focused on bringing trade benefits. The policies are being structured in a way that could facilitate the orange economic opportunities.
