St. Kitts and Nevis to host Sustainable Transformation Dialogue

The Government of St Kitts and Nevis, under the guidance of Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew is all set to host¬† a dialogue under the theme “Transformation to a Sustainable Island: A Budget Conversation with Nation’s Youth”. The event will be held on October 11 at St Kitt’s Marriott Resort.

Focussing on the central role of young minds in creating a safe future, this event aimed to encourage young minds to take part in the high level of decision-making process of the Government.

The dialogue will be part of a series of Budget meetings that are scheduled to take place soon, to get prepared for the crucial 2024 Budget Debate which will be held in December.

The Sustainable Island State Agenda centred around a comprehensive strategy based on seven pillars including ,ensuring water and food security, transitioning to sustainable energy and industry, promoting sustainable settlements and a circular economy, and providing robust social protection to all citizens.

 

This seven-pillar approach aims to establish a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for St. Kitts and Nevis, prioritizing environmental sustainability and socio-economic viability development projects.

Dr Drew also added that With the conviction and dedication, the youth are not merely beneficiaries of sustainable development in the future but the youth is active architects in its making in present.

The Government wants to make an environment where young voices are heard, respected, and incorporated into the national policy-making and implementation processes of decisions of the Government.

Dr Terrance Drew also called the Dialogue an initiative to serve as a catalyst for fostering a sense of ownership and participation among the youth in national development processes with a focus on sustainable development.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew emphasizes, “For a successful journey for sustainability, it is the need of the hour to harness the innovation, passion, and energy of our young talent of the country . Their understandings and perspectives are more important for constructing a future that is resilient, inclusive, and prosperous and stable.”

Prime Minister Dr Drew underscored the importance of the event and called that public participation is crucial in amplifying the importance of inclusive dialogues in shaping the future of our beloved country.
