St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew acknowledged an important discussion, organized by the Citizen Security Task Force in association with the Nevis Island Administration. The discussion was held as a part of the National Consultation on Crime and Violence.
Considering this, PM Drew extended his gratitude towards the organizers and expressed that he wants to thank the Premier of Nevis – Mark Brantley and all those who participated in the discussion.
Reportedly, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis conducted discussions on citizen security to the sister island of Nevis on October 04, 2024 as a part of the National Consultation on Crime and Violence.
The event was held in partnership with the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). It was staged at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park.
As per the sources, the event brought together leaders within from political parties, religious institutions, sports associations, social clubs and other private sector to address the root causes of crime and violence, much alike the initial consultation which was held on St. Kitts on September 06, 2024.
Co-Chair of the Taskforce on Citizen Security – Isalean Phillip also attended the consultation. The event also welcomed the Premier of Nevis – Mark Brantley and members of the NIA Cabinet.
During the National Consultation, Prof. of the Public Health & Policy at Windsor University – Dr. Jeanita Richardson delivered a presentation on ‘Understanding Violence and Crime as a Public Health Issue’, while the USAID presented a Report on Criminal Dynamics Study in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Notably, the interactive community consultation followed the opening session of the National Consultation on Crime and Violence on October 04, 2024. The participants deliberated amongst themselves on the root causes and potential solutions to crime and violence in the country.
Earlier, St. Kitts and Nevis has commenced the training of Thirty frontline workers for certification in the Universal Prevention Curriculum Core Course. The exercise is important and is being undertaken by the National Council on Drug Abuse Prevention.
The training programme was mainly designed to give the participants a foundation in the knowledge and skills required to undertake the evidence-based prevention programming at the community Level.
