Iraq: Disability board held a meeting of directors

Baghdad: On Thursday, the Disability Board holds a meeting of its Board of Directors. Disability board works under the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs ,Iraq. Zhary Abdulrahim, head of the legal body, chaired the meeting. The  Meeitng was held to analyse the working of the body and the steps required to improve the functioning for the welfare of people with special needs

The meeting also discussed the mechanism of paying salaries of staff for previous years, especially for the years 2019, and 2020 and  financial allocations, final accounts for the disability body, Meeting also discusses establishment of the Information Technology Division of the body’s departments in the different  governorates, and subcommittees in areas far from the centre of the governorate.

The meeting also held a discussion on  the term of membership of the Board of Directors and Iraq’s accession to the Marrakesh Treaty on Tuesday, 31-10-2023. Abdulraheem made clear that the Board of Directors under Law No. 38 of 2013 is responsible for drafting the policies and future plans of this body for persons with disabilities.

It is worth mentioning that the under the many national and international laws, states are liable to ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities. States or authorities concerned will be responsible for adopting the legislation and administrative measures that are necessary for the welfare of people with disabilities.

The attendees of the meeting reaffirmed their commitment for sincere effort to uplift the standard of living of disabled persons. they also stated that the board will do its best effort to bring the pragmatic change in the lives of the disabled persons.

It was also decided at the meeting that once the decisions of the meeting are approved, the body will proceed to dispense the financial dues for 2019 and 2020, after clearing the funding from the Ministry of Finance.
