Egypt: The Egyptian judiciary sentenced the artist Mustafa Haridi to a year in prison. The Sheikh Zayed Misdemeanor Court ruled to punish the artist, Mustafa Haridi, with imprisonment for a year, a bail of 5,000 pounds, and a temporary civil compensation of 5,000 pounds, for accusing him of injuring four people by mistake after hitting them with his own car.
Haridy is scheduled to pay the bail amount to stop the execution of the sentence and file an appeal against the ruling.
Haridy’s lawyer argued before the court during the last session that the papers were devoid of any technical evidence other than the statements of the victims, which prove that the accused was travelling at a speed that exceeded the permissible road.
The defence explained that there is no violation in the papers that was detected by the radar on the axis road, which is one of the distinctive ways in which the radar photographed the violating cars.
He added that the condition of the accused did not allow him to be questioned in this matter, especially since he was unconscious because of the accident.
Haridy’s defence presented a portfolio of documents that included official photographs from technical reports, proving that the accused was still being treated for his severe injuries, as well as photographs of the accused proving that there were injuries.
The defence added that everyone agreed that the accident was sudden because the victims’ car stopped, and there is no evidence that the car was travelling at an excessive speed, demanding that the case be returned to the Public Prosecution to indicate whether the condition of the accused allows him to be questioned at this time or not, and he demanded innocence because there is no error on the side of the accused.
The Public Prosecution had heard the statements of the injured in the collision, in which the artist Mustafa Haridi was accused, who stated that while they were riding in a car, they were surprised that the artist’s car collided with them from behind.
The injured – some of whom gave statements in the Public Prosecution while the statements of the rest were heard inside the hospital due to their health condition – said that they were walking at a slow speed to cross a bump while the accused’s car was moving at a very high speed.
