Egypt: The Minister of Education and Technical Education of Egypt, Dr Reda Hijazi, has recently received Mamta Murthy, Deputy Chairman of the World Bank for Human Development Group to research supporting ways of cooperation in the development and growth of the education system of the nation on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

As per the updates, Dr Reda Hijazi, Minister of Education, held a meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry’s General Assembly, Mamta Murthi, Deputy Chairman of the World Bank for Human Development Group, and Marina Weiss, Regional Director of Egypt.

In addition, several other officials were also present, including Yemen and Djibouti at the World Bank and the accompanying delegation, to research ways to support cooperation between Egypt and the World Bank in the field of education.

During the meeting, Dr Reda Hijazi emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Ministry and the World Bank in improving the education system in Egypt, citing in this context the role of the Bank in supporting development plans in Egypt, especially in the fields of pre-university education.

 “Pre-University education is called one of Egypt’s most important development partners, noting that the International Bank project from Projects that helped achieve quality and educational reform,” said reports.

On his part, Education Minister Hijazi added that the Ministry of Education continues to complete the development of the education system, citing that the Education Development Plan is an approach adopted by the whole country.  

He further cited, “The Ministry is working on completing the construction of the development of the educational system in this framework, work on dialogue policy, participation of parents and students; to realize the extent of effort put in developing the educational process.”

Amid the meeting, the Minister reviewed the features of the development witnessed by the education system during the previous period in relation to the indicators of the Education Reform Plan through several key axes, such as,  

– Early Childhood Education System

– Developing Skills and Capabilities of Teachers

– Developing Teaching Facilities for Students

– Intensifying the use of Modern Technology in the Educational Process,

– Establishing Systems Advanced and Effective for Evaluation

– Follow-up to ensure Continuous Development of the Performance of the Education System in Egypt.

On her part, Mamta Murthi, Vice President of the World Bank for Human Development Group, praised the experience of education development in Egypt, which is seen as an important experience in the region, by working on developing curriculum, creating new pathways, confirming the World Bank’s keenness to provide support to various development projects in Egypt, especially in the field of education.

In the end, the World Bank delegation has included Andreas Blum, Middle East Region Education Director; Princess Kazem, Operations Officer of the First Task Force Leader; Rihanna Roberts, the Human Development Program Coordinator in Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti, Bridget Crompton, the first education expert and team leader, and Hannah Brexy, the international director for gender equality.
