Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has shared an update on construction of Goodwill Secondary School. The work is progressing rapidly and everything till now is going as planned.
As per the sources, after the construction of the school gets completed, it will be designated as a Center of Excellence for Technical Vocational Education and Training. The project update report confirms that the school will be completed sooner as the construction work is moving at a steady pace.
Moreover, the Goodwill Secondary School has also received an official grant from the People’s Republic of China funds. The construction project is being completely handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
Reportedly, the new Goodwill Secondary School in Dominica is one of the six schools that is being built under the China Aid Project for the reconstruction of schools post-Hurricane Maria. For this whole project, China is funding the construction of five primary schools that consists of:
- The Sineku
- Calibishie
- Bellevue Chopin
- Thibaud
- and, Tete Morne Primary Schools

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has shared glimpses from the construction site of the Goodwill Secondary School, in an official post on Tuesday, April 08, 2025 on his facebook handle. In the post he mentioned that upon completion the school will be designated as a ‘Center of Excellence for Technical Vocational Education and Training’.
In past, the GSS was severely damaged followed by the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017 and is one of the six schools that will be built under the China Aid Project. The Government of Dominica, broke ground for the construction of the new secondary school on Sept 06, 2023 in partnership with the People’s Republic of China.
Following this, the official contractors of the GSS, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) began the demolition of its existing structure on Monday, November 13, 2023.
Other major features of the new GSS will include counselling, pastoral care and special education rooms, with a sickbay, a fully-equipped library, science labs, as well as an auditorium, along with a canteen, staff quarters and a multipurpose hardcourt.
