The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has made an official statement about the commencement of the First women’s basketball league of country. The league is already scheduled to begin on November 6 at the Al Ittihad Hall in Al Gharafa. The girls’ league will also be started on the same date.

A substantial amount of QR140,000 is reserved for the successful conclusion of the event, along with valuable financial prizes.

The financial rewards will be up for grabs throughout the tournaments, which will go from November 6, 2023, to February 15, 2024.

This important news was unveiled yesterday during a press conference. The press conference was also attended by QBF President Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb, QBF Secretary-General Saadoun Al Kuwari, Director of the Women’s Basketball National Team Ms Amal Al Kaldi, Member of the Women’s Committee Aya Mohammed, and QBF Head of Media Committee Khaled Al Qahtani.

In the first edition, six teams will compete against each other for victory. The names of the teams include Al Gharafa, Al Arabi, Ho0ps Al Shamal, Black Ravens, Pro Sport, and Al Multaqa.
The all competitions of the league will be conducted in three different stages within a single group comprising the teams as mentioned above.

In the girls’ league, seven teams will compete to win, and these teams are, Amna Bint Wahab School, Pro Sport, Fame Sports Academy, Hoops North, Al Multaqa, the Recreation Center, and the Sports Laboratory.

“Our main objective through these programs is to maintain excellence and success in the field of women’s sports; in fact, it serves as a fundamental pillar of the Qatar National Vision for the year 2030. As a determined and dedicated organization, we have committed ourselves to the full-fledged empowerment of women and expanding opportunities and support for Qatari women in sports at the national and international levels,” said Al Mughaiseeb.
