Iran, famously known for its rich culture and heritage, is one of the most visited countries in the Middle East. One of the most visited places in Iran is its deserts.

Even deserts are some of the most daunting places globally; numerous people from different regions visit these deserts to challenge themselves and spend some days in the hottest weather. The deserts include hot weather and offer more challenges like hiking, camping, rock climbing and natural photography.

Iran consists of some of the most famous deserts visited by several people from various countries. Following is the list of the five most visited deserts in Iran-

The Lut Desert:
Commonly known as Dasht-e Lut, it Is a large salt desert located in the province of Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan. The Desert is recognized as the world’s 33rd largest Desert.

It is the hottest Desert in the world. Here in the Lut desert, the satellites have recorded a maximum temperature of 70.7 °C (159.3 °F), making it one of the driest and hottest places on Earth to visit. It was also included on UNESCO’s World Heritage list on July 17, 2016. Despite its arid and sweltering weather, people like to see this place to experience the harshest conditions for humans to live in.

Maranjab Desert:
The Desert is located in Aran o Bidgol, Esfahan province, 60 kilometres (37 miles) northeast of Keshan and north of Salt Lake. The lake has naturally formed a triangular shape with a depth of five meters. The average height of this Desert is 850 meters above sea level. The Desert is Iran’s main tourist attraction due to the diversity of animal species, salt-friendly plants and vegetation.

Mesr Desert:
Located in Mesr, Ishfan province, this Desert is unique and most popular due to its breathtaking scenery. The region is recognized as one of Iran’s most popular tourist attractions. Although the weather remains arid and hot the entire year, it is a perfect spot for date palm trees. Visitors can observe beautiful majestic gardens and date palm trees after entering the area.

The Mesr desert is also well known among tourists for its traditional camel riding in the heart of the Desert. The visitors can also enjoy safari and trekking in sand dunes. One of the main specialities of this Desert can be seen at night. The individual will be amazed by the beautiful night sky, which seems like the stars are just right above your head.

Halvan Desert:
Like Mesr desert, the Halvan desert is famous for date gardens and watching night sky stars. The date gardens in the Halvan deserts are more extensive compared to Mesr and are counted among the most visited places in Iran. The Desert is located near Tabas. Additionally, The areas of this Desert are covered with sand and safari vehicles are considered best to reach the Desert. The journey begins from the sand dunes of Tabas.

Shahdad Desert:
Located in the middle of the Lut desert, there is a region called the Shahdad desert in the eastern part of Kerman City. The most famous landscape in this Desert is Kaluts northeast of the Shahdad desert.

The Kaluts were formed by extreme oil and water erosion. According to local travel experts, the best time to visit Kaluts is from December to March. If the visitor wants to explore the night stars, June to September is the perfect time to reach Kaluts. The Desert also consists of historic castles and ancient water reservoirs to see.
