Roseau, Dominica: On the heart-wrenching incident of a triple train collision that occurred in Odisha, India, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has expressed immense grief and deepest condolences to the victims and families of the demised. 

According to recent reports, an unfortunate train collision occurred on the railway tracks in Odisha, Balasore district, on Friday, June 2, 2023. Prime Minister took to his official Twitter handle to extend heartfelt sadness to the Government of India for the dark day that caused the lives of more than 300 people.

The accident has been reported as one of the most devastating and heart-breaking in Indian history. More than 300 people were reportedly killed, whereas the number of injured touched the mark of more than 900 people, said reports.

Through his Tweet, the Prime Minister of the Caribbean nation expressed that the Government of Dominica stands firm with the Indian Government and the people affected in this unfortunate accident. 

He expressed profound sorrow while reaching out to the people and the Government of India through his tweet. He added that the entire nation and the people of Dominica send their heartiest condolences to the Indians and the loved ones of the victims who lost their lives.

In his message, Prime Minister Skerrit called the miserable mishappening a tragic disaster that India has faced; he mentioned that the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica share your grief in this challenging time as you navigate through this tragedy.

On his part, an official from the Ministry of Railway India shared the details of the horrific accident; he noted that the Coromandel Express derailed on the tracks due to the collision with the good train. As per the sources, the train was speeding at around 127 mph when the crash happened and derailed on the railway tracks.

Following the accident and derailment, nearly 10-12 coaches fell onto the other tracks along with which, just after a few minutes, The Howrah-bound Yesvantpur Express coming from the opposite direction collided with the already derailed coaches. Furthermore, 4 coaches of Howrah Express also got off track and fell on the main line, which added to another collision in the accident.

Following the incident, rescue teams approached the location and began rescue operations for the survivors while looking for the demised. The Government of India announced an ex-gratia of INR. 10 lakh to the families of the deceased, along with INR. 2 lakhs for the injured victims, and the people who sustained minor injuries were granted 50,000 INR.

On his part, the Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi, paid a visit to the accident site and shared his heartfelt condolences and support to the victim’s families affected people. 

In his remarks, PM Modi ensured the people that the Government would investigate the matter carefully and leave no stone unturned for the treatment of the injured. On the other hand, to restore the site and tracks, the Indian Railway Department has started the work, reports added.

Prime Minister also met with the affected people and expressed immense support and profound sadness following the heart-wrenching accident that shook the nation. He added that countries and world leaders around the globe have come forward to showcase their overwhelming support. He stated that the Indian Government is grateful for their support.
