Egypt: The Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Archaeology, Mustafa Waziri, has updated that the Ministry has planted three information boards at Kom Ambo Temple in Aswan following the removal of weeds and determining the path of visiting Abu Mina and Alexandria of the Republic.

The reports have stated that the upgrades have been done in cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Archaeology, noted that the works in the Abu Mina archaeological area come within the results of the second phase of developing visitor services to the site.

The installation of the informational board also included determining the site’s visit path to facilitate visitors to move inside the archaeological site and showing the extension of the site, which includes a group of Important Architectural Buildings, said SG Waziri.

Within the framework of the National Tourism Strategy in Egypt, which highlights the improvement of the tourist experience for Egyptian purposes, the Supreme Council of Archaeology develops and enhances the efficiency of tourism services provided at archaeological sites and museums across the Republic.

“The World Heritage sites of great historical and archaeological importance, as the Council has finished removing the grass from the archaeological site of Abu Mina in Alexandria, and the implementation of the installation of 3 informational panels at the Kom Ambo Temple in Aswan,” he added.

On his part, Basm Ibrahim, Director-General of the General Administration for Tourist, Archaeological and Museum Services, said that a number of signs and maps of the site had also been completed, which enabled the visitor to know the historical, architectural and artistic aspects of the Abu Mina site.

Moreover, the installation of information boards for the double Bath (Basilica Baths) and the bathroom Northern and the wine cellar, also installed double umbrellas, and wooden seats to rest visitors ensure to improve the efficiency of the services provided, improve the tourist experience for visitors from Egyptians and tourists, and provide all access to the archaeological site.

As part of the development works of Kom Ambo Temple in Paswan, the site has been provided with three information panels with a code (QR) explaining the history and architecture of the site in Arabic and English, the boards have been provided with photos, maps and illustrations of all the architectural elements and patterns in the temple, including a portal and a map.

It is reported that the Abu Mina archaeological site is located west of Alexandria, 12 km from the city of Burj Arab, dates back to between the 4th and 6th centuries AD, and was registered as an archaeological site in accordance with Decision No. 698 in 1956, and in 1979 the site was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Abu Mina site is one of the most important centres of Christian pilgrimage in Egypt, and it consists of the remains of the outer fences that surrounded the entire site, the two northern and western gates and some streets surrounding rows of columns that carried roofs, and it has houses, bathrooms and restrooms for pilgrims coming to the area.

Additionally, the excavations have so far shown ten buildings consisting of the huge architectural complex of Abi Mina: the Grand Basilica, the Church of the Burial, the Baptist, the Guest House, the Double Bath (Basilica Baths), the Northern Bath, the Northern Basilica, the Eastern Church, the Western Church.

As for Kum Ambo Temple, it is one of the most beautiful Batlamic temples on the eastern bank of the Nile Aswan, which is dedicated to the worship of the gods Subak and Horus, and it is characterized by the beauty, splendour and precision of its patterns.

The Ministry has implemented an integrated project for the development of the Kom Ambo Temple, where the groundwater level reduction project was implemented in the temple, the fine restoration works of the temple’s inscriptions and lighting system development.
