Egypt: Mr Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Archaeology, and Mrs Ghada Shalaby, Deputy Minister for Tourism Affairs, participated in the reception ceremony of the first regular flight of Wizz Air Company coming from Malpensa Airport in Milan, Italy, to Sphinx International Airport. 

The flight was boarded by a number of 300 passengers on board, as part of the company’s launch Directing new flights to Sphinx International Airport from Milan and Rome, Italy.

The updates issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Archaeology have stated that “The Deputy Minister of Tourism Ghada Shalaby has participated in the reception ceremony of the first regular flight of Wizz Air from Malpensa Airport in Milan, Italy to Sphinx International Airport.”

The reception was attended by Ambassador Michel Quaroni, Ambassador of the State of Italy in Cairo, Mr Robert Etinne, CEO of Wizz Air Hungary, Mr Mohamed Salama, Head of the Central Management of the Tourism Offices of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Activity, and a number of leaders of Sphinx International Airport and Newstar Aviation Services, the General Agent of Wizz Air.

During her speech, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Archaeology thanked and saluted the Ministry of Civil Aviation and all those at Sphinx International Airport for the competence and quality of services provided at the airport equipped with the latest technologies, which reflects a positive impression of the tour upon arrival in Egypt.

“Minister of Tourism Issa emphasized the importance of Sphinx International Airport, which serves a distinctive tourist and archaeological area due to its location near the Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum,” said the reports.

During her speech, the Deputy Minister expressed her happiness with the operation of the new airline, which will increase the tourist movement coming to Egypt, especially from the Italian market.

For his part, the CEO of Wizz Air explained that the company is currently operating a number of flights to a number of Egyptian airports, such as Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Marsa Al-Alam, Burj Al-Arab in Alexandria and Sohag, with a total of 38 flights per week, indicating that the company intends to operate more flights from a number of markets.

During the reception ceremony, the Deputy Minister and CEO of Wizz Air discussed the company’s operation of other airlines from the UK, Austria and France, which comes in line with the strategy of the Ministry and the Egyptian state to increase the number of incoming flight seats for different Egyptian tourist destinations to boost tourism movement arriving to the Egyptian tourist destination.

On the sidelines of the reception ceremony, Professor Ghada Shalaby met the Ambassador of Italy, Michel Quaroni, in Cairo, where she mentioned during the meeting the importance of the Italian market, which is one of the important tourist markets that are the source of tourism for Egypt.

He also reviewed what the tourism industry in Egypt is witnessing from a special development in the rich diversity of tourism products and activities. A tourist can enjoy a unique tourist experience during his visit to Egypt.

Minister also emphasized the Ministry’s keenness to improve the efficiency of the tourist services provided for various Egyptian tourist destinations, contributing to improving the tourist experience in Egypt, which is one of the pillars of the national strategy for tourism development in Egypt.
