Bahrain: Public Health Agent, Al-Alawi participates in 16th meeting of WHO subcommittee

Bahrain: The Ministry of Bahrain of the Kingdom of Bahrain has recently shared an update regarding the participation of the Assistant Agent for Public Health, Dr Ijalal Faisal Al-Alawi during the 16th (sixteenth) meeting of the Subcommittee on Emerging Programs of the Regional Committee of the WHO Middle East.

Bahrain: The Ministry of Bahrain of the Kingdom of Bahrain has recently shared an update regarding the participation of the Assistant Agent for Public Health, Dr Ijalal Faisal Al-Alawi during the 16th (sixteenth) meeting of the Subcommittee on Emerging Programs of the Regional Committee of the WHO Middle East.

According to the reports, the meeting was held at the headquarters of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office in Cairo between 22 to 23 February 2023. In addition, this participation comes in the framework of the preparations for the work of the 70th session of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Middle East.

The reports confirmed that the meeting focused on preparing the arrangements for the 70th meeting of the WHO Regional Committee, which is scheduled to be held next October, aimed at discussing the items on the course agenda, work documents, reports and draft resolutions. During the meeting, the assistant public health agent was elected as deputy chairman of the subcommittee among its eight members.

Furthermore, he also chaired five sessions, during which a number of top topics and technical papers were discussed as addressing non-rigorous diseases in fragile and vulnerable environments affected by conflict and vulnerable environments.

During his address, Assistant Agent, Al-Alawi emphasized promoting public health readiness for mass gatherings in the region, as well as the topics of the health workforce, the regional framework for work 2023-2029 for climate change, health and environment, youth health and welfare.

Moreover, the alliance Regional Health to accelerate the joint implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to health and other important issues at the regional level were also discussed.

The meeting concluded its work by adopting proposals for a number of resolutions that will be worked on to be finalized at the next meeting of the Committee, scheduled to be held in June 2023, and then raised for consideration during the work of the 70th session of the Regional Committee of the WHO for the Middle East.
