Egypt: The Minister of the Environment, Yasmin Fouad, with the team, Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Board, is looking for ways to boost the blue economy and efforts to develop Egyptian lakes. 

According to the updates, Dr Yasmin Fouad, the Minister of the Environment, with the team Osama Rabie, the head of the Suez Canal Board, researched ways of cooperation in a number of important files related to environmental distancing and sustainable development goals. 

This came in the presence of Dr Ali Abu Sunni, the head of the Environmental Affairs Agency, and Dr Atwa Hussein, the advisor to the Head of the Board for Environmental Affairs, at the Al-Rashad building in the governorate Ismailia, said reports. 

The meeting saw a discussion on ways to boost the blue economy, stay updated on the Egyptian Lakes Development and Development Project, and discuss ways to achieve accurate management of coastal areas and solid and liquid waste.

On her part, Dr Yasmin Fouad, the Minister of the Environment, emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Authority in the light of current changes, especially climate change, emphasizing the need to take advantage of the support provided to the Ministry of the Environment by the World Bank. 

It was further emphasized that cooperation in preparing an integrated strategic preparation of the blue economy, including roles and responsibilities, while raising awareness and developing capacity for the new concept of blue economy and other associated concepts, especially climate change.

Moreover, Environment Minister Fouad pointed out the need for all state institutions to consolidate supportive efforts to develop the concept of Egypt’s blue economy in light of the ambitious vision of the Egyptian government under the auspices of the Prime Minister to develop the resources of this vital sector. 

The Minister also discussed cooperation with the body in the areas of developing a system for integrated liquid and solid waste management. 

On the other hand, for his part, Team Osama Rabie, chairman of the board, explained that the Suez Canal is implementing a comprehensive strategy to diversify income sources by adopting a package of giant national projects. 

She said that the projects would be based on the concept of the blue economy, such as the localization of yacht tourism by developing yacht ports on the banks of the channel and creating the first green yacht port In the region. 

In addition to the participation of the Authority in the development and purification of Egyptian lakes, led by the national project to develop Lake Bardwell and develop Sinai in implementation of the instructions of President Abdul Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to increase the fish production of the lake from one thousand tons to 2 thousand tons and restore the ecosystem in the region.

The chairman of the board stressed that the Suez Canal is moving forward in implementing environmentally-friendly policies and practices, under the umbrella of an integrated development strategy aimed at strengthening its position as the most maritime route in compliance with environmental standards and agreements, in preparation for the declaration of the Suez Canal a “Green Channel” by 2030.
