Egypt: Education Minister Reda Hegazy hosts meeting with leaders of GALAE

The Minister of Education and Technical Education, Reda Hegazy, hosted a meeting with the leaders of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education and the Regional Center for Adult Education in Sars Al-Lyan.

Egypt: The Minister of Education and Technical Education, Reda Hegazy, hosted a meeting with the leaders of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education and the Regional Center for Adult Education in Sars Al-Lyan. 

The meeting was held to discuss different ways to strengthen coordination between the involved parties in the education sector. According to the updates, the discussion has occurred at the Ministry of Education in the Administrative Capital.

The Minister of Education, Hegazy, cited that “The meeting focused on strengthening literacy mechanisms and coordinate work between the General Authority for Illiteracy, Adult Education and the Central Administration to combat Leakage from education and teaching adults in ministry.”

As per the sources, Reda Hegazy, the Minister of Education, will also review with the General Authority for Literacy, Adult Education and the Regional Center for Adult Education leaders the working mechanisms during the coming period to eliminate illiteracy.

On his part, he further cited that “The illiteracy issue is one of the most important files that the Ministry is working on. The Ministry is working to enhance cooperation with relevant ministries, Al-Ahly labour institutions, partner entities and organizations to focus literacy efforts.”

Furthermore, during the meeting, the primary focus of the meeting was to review the mechanisms and procedures the Ministry is implementing in the light of the current national project for illiteracy, as well as the future vision of this national project, achieving the mentioned goal of “Egypt without illiteracy 2030”.

“The illiteracy issue is one of the most important files that the Ministry of Education is working on and paying great attention to, in accordance with the state plan for literacy and building the “new republic”, and the political leadership’s interest in the literacy file as one of the priorities of the Egyptian state,” said the Minister of Education, Heda Hegazy.

While extending her remarks, she further pointed out that the issue of illiteracy is a community issue, and solving this issue is through participation and collaboration of efforts between all parties and the people of the society.

Moreover, the illiteracy file and illiteracy recession from files that oppose the path of development and progress were directed to study all problems and challenges facing the literacy mechanisms in Egypt. Along with activating the enhancement of cooperation with relevant ministries, Al-Ahly work institutions, entities and partner organizations to focus efforts in this file, added the Minster.

He also emphasized the importance of updating the databases for the illiteracy ratio in Egypt, including their geographical distribution, to make it easier to target them. Additionally, the General Authority for Literacy, Adult Education and the Regional Center for Adult Education leaders are advised to adopt the necessity of developing and empowering input in literacy and adult education.

The reports also concluded that the meeting was attended by Mohammed Nassif, the head of the executive body of the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education, and Khaled Abdul Hakim, the head of central administration for combating leakage from education and adult education in the Ministry, and Khaled Khidr, the director of the regional centre for adult education in Saras Al-Liyan, and Khamis, the literacy officer in the general administration of literacy in the Ministry.
